I’m so glad to introduce my latest project, the Suzie Cowl, a quick an easy project to crochet with two buttons for a little plus!

I’m a knitting pattern designer first. I always preferred knitting over crochet, until a few years ago, because I found that knitting projects were more supple, less thick.

Then, I rediscovered the crochet and its speed of execution. Despite everything, the projects I was doing all had this more rigid side.

But I thought at something! I don’t know why I didn’t think about it before, but just like for knitting, the blocking step is essential!

I now get supple projects. They are still thick, but the thickness is perfect for our long, cold winters.

The blocking stage is an important step to appreciate crochet better! Don’t skip that step! :)

Here’s the Suzie Cowl, a project that rises quickly with simple stitches!

What do you need to know about this crochet pattern cowl, the Suzie Cowl?

The finished size (when the project is blocked) is about:

Length: 58 inches (147 cm)
Width: 8,5 inches (21,5 cm)

The gauge, in pattern and blocked, is 16 sts for 4 inches (10 cm). Take time to knit a swatch before.

Level of difficulty: Beginner

This pattern is available in English written instructions (US terms).

Which yarn and notions do you need to crochet this cowl?

Yarn: Peruvian Sierra Aran

428 yards (391 m). This yarn has a composition of 80% Highland Wool and 20% Alpaca.
Aran / 8 wpi
Texture: Plied

Notions:

crochet hook 5,5 mm (size I)
scissors
1 tapestry needle to weave in ends
2 buttons (30 mm) to decorate and tie the two ends together. No buttonholes to make.

Row 1: skip 1 ch, 1 sc in the 2nd ch, in the same ch, 1 dc, skip 1 ch, * 1 sc in the next ch, 1 dc in the same ch; repeat from * to the last ch, 1 sc, turn

Row 2: ch1, skip the next st (the dc from the previous row), * 1 sc and 1 dc in the sc of the previous row, skip 1 st; repeat from * to the last st, sc, turn

Repeat row 2 until the cowl measures 51 inches (129,5 cm).

Time to make the small band for the buttons decoration

ch 1, skip the next st (the dc from the previous row), * 1 sc and 1 dc in the sc of the previous row, skip 1 st; repeat from *, 4 more times, 1 sc in the sc of the previous row, turn

ch 1, skip the next st (the dc from the previous row), * 1 sc and 1dc in the sc of the previous row, skip 1 st; repeat from * to the last st, 1 sc, turn

Repeat these 2 rows 1 more time.

Break yarn.

Weave in ends.

Le patron de crochet pour un col, the Suzie Cowl

Je suis vraiment contente de vous présenter mon dernier projet de crochet, le Suzie Cowl !

Je suis avant tout une designer de patrons de tricot. J’ai toujours préféré le tricot au crochet jusqu’à il y a quelques années. Je trouvais que les projets étaient plus souples, moins épais.

Puis, j’ai redécouvert le crochet et sa rapidité d’exécution. Malgré tout, les projets que je créais avaient tous ce côté plus rigide que j’appréciais moins.

Je ne sais pas pourquoi je n’y ai pas pensé avant, mais tout comme pour le tricot, l’étape du blocage est super importante!

J’obtiens maintenant des projets souples ! Ils sont encore plus épais qu’un projet de tricot avec la même grosseur de laine mais c’est parfait pour nos longs hivers froids.

L’étape du blocage est une étape importante pour mieux apprécier le crochet ! :)
